CEO Sundar Pichai announced the groundbreaking development via a post on X. Branded as Gemini 1.0, it represents Google’s most potent AI model to date. Positioned as a direct competitor to OpenAI’s cutting-edge GPT-4, Gemini signifies a significant advancement in AI technology.
Gemini, classified as a Large Language Model (LLM), shares similarities with ChatGPT and the AI integrated into Microsoft Copilot. When prompted with a question or request, such as querying the most popular Thanksgiving dish or crafting a unique stuffing recipe featuring chestnuts, Gemini utilizes extensive data resources to promptly generate articulate responses that emulate natural human language.
Google’s Gemini represents a fusion of multimodal AI and foundational AI capabilities. Gemini asserts proficiency in programming and boasts twice the speed of comparable models, with an 85% enhancement in performance compared to existing AI offerings in the market. Google has unveiled three variants of its Gemini iPhone model: Gemini Ultra, Pro, and Nano, each tailored for distinct applications. Unlike a singular language model, Gemini comprises Nano, Pro, and Ultra versions, each catering to specific needs and requirements.
Among these variants, Gemini Ultra stands out as the largest and most potent tool, specifically tailored for handling intensive tasks, particularly in data center environments. Meanwhile, Gemini Pro, although not on par with Ultra, is suitable for application in smaller-scale data centers. The smallest iteration, Gemini Nano, has been meticulously crafted with Android devices in focus, offering offline functionality. It facilitates a multitude of tasks on mobile devices. Gemini Nano support will initially debut with the release of Google Pixel 8 Pro, boasting features such as automatic replies to WhatsApp messages.
Similar to OpenAI, Google provides its current chatbot in two tiers: a free version and a premium offering. Access to Gemini is readily available to anyone with a Google account, while Gemini Advanced is accessible through a $20 monthly subscription, akin to the pricing models of ChatGPT Plus and Microsoft Copilot Pro. Currently, Google is conducting a promotional offer allowing users to trial Gemini Advanced for 60 days at no cost before initiating the subscription charge.
