AI Will Create Personalized Playlist For You In Spotify Spotify, the Swedish music streaming platform, has recently revealed its testing phase for an artificial intelligence-driven playlist feature. This beta version is exclusively available to premium subscribers on both Android and iOS platforms but is currently only accessible in the UK and Australia.
Spotify has introduced an innovative feature enabling users to generate playlists based on textual prompts. Users can input requests such as “Create a playlist for relaxation during sleep,” and Spotify will curate a selection of smooth and calming soundtracks accordingly. Additionally, users can utilize prompts related to locations, animals, activities, film characters, colors, and emoticons.
According to Spotify, prompts combining genres, moods, artists, or decades yield superior playlist results. Conversely, non-music-related prompts such as current events or specific brands will not generate results. The quality and specificity of the prompt determine the foundation and effectiveness of the playlist.
Spotify asserts its utilization of Large Language Models (LLMs) to interpret users’ playlist creation requests. Additionally, Spotify plans to incorporate various other AI features into the platform.
At present, this feature is undergoing testing, during which the AI technology employed by Spotify can cater to a diverse array of personalized playlist requests. Furthermore, it offers users the ability to fine-tune their playlists by issuing commands such as “less upbeat” or “more pop.” Users can conveniently remove undesirable songs from their playlists by swiping left on the respective tracks.
The unveiling of this feature occurred in October 2023, initially reported by TechCrunch, following the discovery of code referencing AI-driven playlists “based on your prompts” by reverse engineers. Previously, Spotify employed personalization technologies to curate playlists tailored to listener moods and preferences; now, the integration of AI prompts simplifies playlist creation for users.
Once launched globally, accessing this feature will be straightforward for users. They can navigate to the “Your Library” tab within Spotify’s app and tap on the plus button (+) located at the top right corner of the screen. For users seeking guidance on prompt creation, Spotify offers suggestions like “enhance focus at work with instrumental electronica” or “discover niche genres like Witch House.”
The company officially acknowledged its exploration of AI-driven playlist creation in December 2023 following the emergence of a TikTok video showcasing “Spotify’s ChatGPT.”
